Timber Buildings - Construction Style

Our preferred construction system is using Structural Insulated panels (SIPS).

Simply put, SIPS are factory created panels of wooden OSB with an insulated middle which lock together on site to create the structural monocoque of the building. The result is a rapid form of construction which reduces the delays and costs associated with traditional construction.

A timber building can then be clad externally in a range of materials, but both for sustainability and aesthetic reasons, we generally use wooden cladding. Western Red Cedar is attractive, naturally weather resilient and does not require much maintenance to secure its long lifespan. Alternatively Thermowood is a lower cost timber which has been heat treated to improve the timbers stability and resistance to decay. Neither finish will require ongoing maintenance and will naturally weather down to an attractive silver grey colour. Timber buildings can also be clad in brick facework or a range of panel finishes where preferred.

The roofing material is normally a high quality bitumen coated steel tile which carries a long 40 year + guarantee. However, Sedum or Wildflower roofing is available to those wanting a more sustainable appearance. Traditional tiles in keeping with the local environment can also be provided where required.

Internally the building can be traditionally finished with a plastered/painted surface. Our buildings often display visible Glulam beams or feature trusses which add character and interest to the interior.

Popular uses for our timber buildings are for Outdoor Classrooms, Teaching Blocks and Visitor Centres.
